Everest Base Camp

2 months to go – Everest Base Camp Update!

It’s exactly 2 months till I leave the comforts of the UK and into the relative unknown of what Nepal and the Everest Base Camp trek awaits!

As previously mentioned, I’ve listed a number of worries that are still there, some not so bad now, they’ve turned into excitement rather than a worry, arriving and departing Lukla airport being one that I’m looking forward to rather than dreading.

However, one that’s still ever there and will be the whole time away is leaving the kids…I get thoughts pop into my head… ‘Why are you leaving them for so long?’ ‘What kind of mum leaves their children for 2 and a half weeks?’ ‘What if something was to happen to them or me?’ Many a thought that I’m sure every mum / parent goes through….I guess if i didn’t think these thoughts then I’d be more worried!!

As for fundraising, I’m pretty much there, the total to raise was £3000 (inc gift aid) and I’m currently at £2810, so am short approximately £170-£200 if you take into consideration the gift aid.  So if anyone feels like they want to help make up that short-fall, you can find my Just Giving page here!

I still haven’t decided on my hiking boots, I’ve bought 2 pairs off eBay since I posted about the dilemma of buying new boots…one pair I really liked, hardly worn boots by Scarpa but sadly they were just a little tight around the front of the foot and a lovely vintage leather Scarpa boot, which are really nice and only cost £10!  Yet I think they may be too heavy and clumpy, they probably weigh twice as much as my normal pair…. So realistically I’ve left it too late now to buy brand new boots (not much time to wear them in and test them out) so will just make do with my dog eaten ones 🙂 (they did see me successfully up and down Kilimanjaro so I know they are perfectly suitable)

Fitness wise, I’ll be honest, I haven’t done much for a while now, I haven’t been able to find the time to get to the gym, only taking the dogs for quick walks.  I will be making a big push on this from next week when things have settled down in my unusually hectic last few weeks!  And I admit, my weight loss challenge has kind of been abandoned over the school holidays….I simply have no willpower and when I have 2 boys that want constant snacks throughout the day, I’m in and out the blinkin kitchen so much that I find it hard to resist a nibble here and there…So this will be put back into motion once kids are back at school! 🙂

I’ve yet to sort out my vaccinations as these can be done around 2 weeks before I leave, although perhaps I ought to make the appointment so the nurse can get the vaccines in!

I’m also in the process of looking at buying a new DSLR camera, I’m thinking the Canon 700D might be the best choice based on reviews, but yet to physically go look at some in the shops to get a proper feel on weight and size.

So that’s where I’m currently at, a few things I need to get cracking on, but generally I’m pretty happy with what’s been achieved so far and am confident that I can fulfill the rest within the 2 months remaining!
