Make Time for Family

It’s all too easy as a family to do your own things when at home, especially as children get older and more independent.  You will quite often find my two holed away in their bedrooms on the Xbox chatting to their friends or engrossed in the latest Minecraft YouTube video and me, I take the opportunity to catch up on TV programmes unsuitable for younger eyes.

But it’s so important to spend quality time with your children too and in collaboration with Applewood Cheese and their #ApplewoodHours campaign, they have inspired me to put aside an hour a week to commit to quality time with the boys whilst enjoying some of their lovely smoked cheese too!

Opting for a Saturday as the best day to do this as there’s no homework worry and no school the next day to think about.

We enjoyed a game of hide and seek (quite a challenge in our small house!) and then fumbled through a game of Twister…which incidentally is a lot harder when you’re older!

Next up we played my favourite camping game Pass the Pigs…hoping to get the elusive double leaning jowler…  and then finished off with a game of Don’t Rock the Boat.

All this and we (loosely translated to me) enjoyed an easy cheese bake from Applewood, you pop into the microwave for just 1 minute and the end result is an indulgent cheesey bake perfect for crusty bread, I added dried cranberries to mine to add another texture and flavour.

Perfect for having in front of an open fire….or if you don’t have one of these but have Sky TV, you can download one from their Christmas Scenes 🙂

Just spending a dedicated hour or so with the children, letting them decide what we should play next was a real highlight of the day, there were no arguments only laughter and it really made me more conscious of making it a regular thing.
