Storing Memories #SafestoreYourMemories

Keeping and storing physical memories can become harder when the world is turning more and more digital with fewer people printing off photographs etc, however there are some memories that will always be treasured.  I was given a challenge to create a memory capsule in conjunction with the #SafestoreYourMemories campaign by Safestore.

Here’s what’s in my memory capsule:

Alf!

Alf was my first cuddly toy and I took him everywhere!  He accompanied me on holidays and day trips and always always sat on my bed… Some people say he’s creepy and ugly, but I love him..even now 🙂

Cards from the kids

I love those special times of the year when the school get the kids to make their own cards, be it at Christmas or Mothers Day, you always know they’ve made the card with love and carefully thought out what to write inside.

Travel Memories

5

It’s hard to keep all your favourite travel memories to hand, but there’s a few special things I have kept along the way.

  • Townsend Thoresen membership card and ship’s log – As a child I’ve taken many ferry trips across the channel and at the time you were given a log which you would get stamped on every trip.
  • Airmail letters and friendship book – This was from my time teaching in India, mobile phones were available but not easily used so letters was the norm.  The friendship book has been filled in by some of the children I taught and played with at the school.
  • Old Passport – Just to keep track on the countries I’ve visited.
  • Prayer Scarf from Nepal – After completing the Everest Base Camp Trek, we were all presented with these prayer scarves, I have this one and I always keep one in my backpack for every hiking trip I take for good luck.
  • Lava rock from Kilimanjaro – I picked up this rock from around the lava tower on Kilimanjaro, just a small token from my first ever expedition.

Childhood Memories

6

These few items are from key moments of my childhood through to turning 21:

  • Hospital name band
  • Newspaper Announcement – In those days it was the norm to announce the birth of your child in the local paper.
  • Silver Plateset – A traditional Christening gift.
  • Bunnykins Bone China Bowl and mug – again this was a Christening gift.
  • Autograph book – At the age of 9 I changed schools and moved away, this book is filled with all my old school friends good wishes.
  • My First Special Christmas – This book was a gift from a relative, inside it’s all personalised right down to my pet dog Brandy!
  • 21st Teddy Bear – A gift from a friend on turning 21.

These are just some of my memories, I have plenty more of the kids artwork and sculptures but they’re currently on show around the house and not ready to be stored just yet 🙂

What memories have you kept hold of and how do you store?
