Wakeboarding at Glasfryn Parc – Wales

Glasfryn Parc is an all-weather activity centre based near Pwllheli in North West Wales (just outside of Snowdonia) which offers an array of family activities to suit all ages.  I was invited to a wakeboarding lesson which is something I’ve never tried before so I had little to no idea on what to expect and how I’d do.

I’ve done wind-surfing a little but that was in my early teens a distant memory these days 🙂

Luckily the weather was nice, it was sunny at least.  Suiting up in wetsuits, life jackets and helmets we ventured round the edge of the lake where we were to start our debriefing and what to expect.

As I was the one who arranged the outing, I was kindly nominated to go first…

Strapping my feet into the boots on the wakeboard and then trying to get into the lake was the first challenge and my god when I got into the water it was so cold that I was trying to catch my breath, although thankfully it didn’t take too long to warm up.

So basically how it worked was the instructor controlled the pulley with the tow rope and so controlled your speed and also when to stop.  This was a system which simply went to the end of the lake and back again, each time stopping to turn around.

Starting off it was simply trying to get from one side to the other without falling over, then gradually moving onto standing up a little straighter, adjusting your hold on the tow bar and increasing the speed slightly.

Apart from one moment where my board caught the water and flipped me forward, I think I did pretty well and now I know that when my boys want to do something like this in the future I can say confidently that I can also take part and not embarrass myself!

The lesson lasted 15 minutes and although that doesn’t initially sound like a lot it’s pretty tiring on the lake so actually 15 minutes non-stop felt like quite a long time!

It is recommended to pre-book wakeboarding and a 15 minutes session costs £20.00.
