Culture Vulture – Mayura Sculpture
Culture Vulture is a site dedicated to bringing you unique and diverse handmade craft items with a contemporary twist alongside responsibly sourced Fair Trade items. There are many styles to choose from, including European, Asian, American and African and with many varying uses from furnishings, kitchenware, clothing and home accessories.
Having travelled to a few of these different continents myself I’ve always loved browsing the local shops wishing I could buy and bring home certain items, but with limited luggage space, quite often I’m unable to bring back.
When browsing the site it helps to first choose the style or continent that appeals to you, then take a look at what they have available to buy. In my case, having spent sometime teaching in India years ago and it always having a special place in my heart it was easy to choose India as my first choice. Then searching through the list of items the one that stood out the most was the Mayura Sculpture which is a peacock, the nation bird of India symbolising grace, pride and beauty.
The peacock has been crafted out of recycled tin material and is multicoloured. What I particularly like is that you can still see the original material (in that it hasn’t been painted over), there’s writing on some of the pieces which show places within India. The sculpture is carefully molded together and feels very strong and secure. It doesn’t say on the website but I would guess that this could potentially be used inside or as an outside feature.
The Mayura Sculpture is currently priced at £32.00 and stands at 30cm tall.
