Day out – West Midland Safari Park

During our recent stay at The Elms in Abberley, we had already took a trip out to Ludlow Castle, but also in very close proximity was West Midlands Safari Park.  We were able to book our tickets through the hotel which gave us a slightly reduced rate of £52 instead of £59.96 (if paid on admission).

As it was the school holidays we arrived at the park as soon as it opened as we knew it would quickly fill up as the day went on and as much as I like watching the animals, staring at the same animal for 10-15 mins each time was not a great idea with 2 restless kids in the back.

The Safari took around 2 hours to get round with a good opportunity to watch the animals and take pictures, some of my favourites below:

Once the Safari drive was finished, we parked up and headed on foot to see the smaller animals, reptiles, penguins etc.  Also included at the park is a large amusement park, however the rides are not included in ticket price, so you will have to purchase tickets or wristbands before going on any rides…unfortunately *cough there was only a few rides that the boys would go on their own, so I had to purchase a wristband so they would go on more rides… 😉

All in all it was a good day out, we got to see most of the animals well and the boys had a good time on the rides afterwards…one thing we didn’t prepare for was lunch, next time definitely will pack a picnic…It’s surprising how quickly the day adds up:

Safari ticket – £52

Lunch + snacks – £15

Amusement Park x3 wristbands – £34

Total spent = £101

Thankfully we managed to avoid the gift shop 🙂

Are you a fan of Safari Parks?

I know, there’s so many places to go once they get to an age where they’ll appreciate it more! Saying that, you’ll probably get him in free before 2 or 3, so make the most of not paying for him whilst you can 🙂

What amazing photos – loving the Ostrich. Really enjoyed reading this post and having never been to West Midlands before, your post really sells it. PS: Who enjoyed the rides more? Boys or Mum?

Thanks Cathie 🙂 About the rides, I would have gone on more if I could, but the kids wouldn’t go on all of them 🙁

This sounds like such a great day out! Although I have to say, i’d be more interested in the rides than the animals! (Even though i’m a big scaredy cat about them too)! xx
