Escot – The Natural Place for Family Fun – Devon
When deciding on where best to visit during any family outing, I take into account what’s available for everyone to enjoy. Escot based in Devon and about a 25-30 minute drive from Ladram Bay Holiday Park is the perfect place to cover all our requirements.
For me the highlight of the visit was to see the Red Squirrels and to be able to get up close in their large Red Squirrel Encounter (which is actually free for anyone to visit). Only ever seeing these once before in Scotland (so I’m told, although I was too young to remember this!) it’s great to see that they are doing so well in this part of the country. They are also within the main woodland area although much more trickier to spot!
Going through to the main part of Escot, you’re taken on a woodland walk, where you will encounter Peacocks, Otters, Owls and Wild Boar.
And with small outdoor play areas intermingled with the trees there’s something new to explore at every corner.
There’s also a large beech hedge maze where you’re sure to spend a considerable amount of time before you find your way out! And an indoor play area giving the perfect opportunity for a sit down and a coffee whilst the kids burn of more energy.
Also available to see is a Saxon village and birds of prey displays.
I would recommend eating at the Coach House Restaurant which is located nearby the entrance to Escot, you can get reasonably priced hot meals and a good selection of cakes too.
All in all we had a great day at Escot, even if the weather was pretty awful! I’d love to re-visit in the sunshine as I’m sure it will be even better 🙂

The photos of the squirrels are amazing. We have them up here at Formby, and our local children’s farm has some too, but never been able to capture them still enough for a photo. It looks like a lovely day out. #travelwithkids
