Interior Design Ideas for Summer – GP

I’m always looking for design inspiration, below is a post from Patti, a friend who has shared some tips on some interior design ideas for Summer, over to you Patti…

Oh, isn’t it just glorious out there! If you’re revelling amongst the blue skies, buttercups and birdsong, why not get inspired by the Great British Summer and bring some sunny design into your home? Remember to first get your common AC problems sorted so you don’t need to worry about overheating – then you can focus on the interior design. Here are some beautiful, breezy interior design ideas to help you let the sunshine in, whatever the weather.

Natural Light
Bright sunshine is an instant mood booster. All sorts of white coated scientists tell us that a good dose of natural light triggers the production of Vitamin D in our bodies, making us feel healthier and happier. Letting in lots of daylight is a great way to create a summery vibe in your home. Ditch your heavy, winter draft-excluding curtains for light, translucent gauzes in vibrant colours. Alternatively, for a little more privacy, install pretty venetian blinds which allow your windows to let in as much daylight as possible.

Floral Prints
There is a delicious smorgasbord of floral print around these days. From big, bold, modern florals to small, pretty vintage prints; there’s no excuse for not finding a look that is to your taste. Turn your favourite fabric into cushion covers and throws for a quick and easy summery overhaul (which you can simply remove and wash if the kids get a little messy during the summer holidays!). If you’re looking for a more dramatic, permanent change, create a floral feature wall with your favourite flowery wallpaper.

Light Wood
Paler woods like oak, ash and pine reflect natural light, creating a breezy, spacious feel. If you’re lucky enough to have a real wood floor, remove any rugs and give your home a thorough decluttering to enjoy a spacious summery feel. For those of us with children and pets, practicality often comes before style, which sadly means that a scratchable, stainable wooden floor is out of the question. But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to introduce light, natural wood in the form of chairs, tables, shelves, storage spaces and ornaments.

Vibrant Tones
For the perfect summery colour palette this year, start daydreaming about your fantasy tropical island getaway. Sparkling, resonant blues, hot pinks, verdant greens and bright yellows all look gorgeous as subtle accents in a minimalist interior. Try adding them in the form of tableware for a low-maintenance injection of summer style.

Real Blooms
Nothing welcomes in the summer like real flowers; and they’re much cheaper at this time of year. If the kids need some exercise and a little project during the summer holidays, why not go out to pick your own country posies and display them in a summery vase? We love a classic jug vase, perfect for laid back beauty. Be careful though, lovely country hedgerow plants like cow parsley and campion are there for the picking, but steer clear of protected orchids and bluebells or might find yourself in a spot of bother!

Vintage Charms
A rustic, shabby chic look is a great summer style, ideal for those who find a minimalist interior a little cold. Think vintage chintzy florals, pretty knick-knacks, light natural wood and plenty of charming, hand-made touches.
