Restaurant Ember Wellingborough – Sunday Lunch Review

Restaurant Ember is barbeque restaurant located at the Nene Court Embankment in Wellingborough conveniently located just off the A45 with plenty of parking available.

Restaurant Ember has an energetic vibe in a cosy and intimate setting with a range of tables and the option sit at chef’s table.  There are different dining options, 7 course tasting menu, small plate dining and newly relaunched Sunday lunch.  We opted for the Sunday lunch.

The Dishes

To start we had the Lamb bacon tostada, feta icing and mint chimmi and Turkey kofte, whipped chickpea, cranberry and pickled cabbage.  Both were delicious but the stand out was the lamb bacon tostada!  Not having tried lamb bacon before, the dish was incredibly tasty with different textures, we could have eaten just these 😀

For the main course, we opted for the beef and pork belly.  All served with beef fat roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, Yorkshire pudding, hay smoked carrot puree, roast honey carrot and gravy made from smoked bones.  We also chose the pork & leek sausage as a side.

Both meats were melt in your mouth and the flavours on the plate were familiar to a Sunday roast, with a smokey twist which gave a really nice point of difference.  The only thing I would have preferred was to have the carrot puree on the side as it was hidden under most of the food and I felt was a little lost, however when I found a bit on it’s own the flavour was lovely.

For dessert we had the Nordic pan doughnuts, gelato and miso caramel and also the Chocolate, black olive, olive oil and buttermilk.

Though the chocolate dessert appeared small on the plate, it was rich so the portion size was just right, though I struggled to pick out the olive.  The doughnuts were to share and were as yummy as you’d expect!  Just couldn’t finish the last one which was disappointing!

Whilst this is a barbeque restaurant, the smokiness wasn’t over-powering and the flavours of the ingredients shone through.  The open kitchen is great and from where we were sitting we had a great view watching plates come together.

Service

The service at Restaurant Ember was faultless, the staff were attentive and friendly without being too overwhelming and really made the whole lunch enjoyable.

Overall

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Restaurant Ember and are looking forward to coming back to try the tasting menu and experience their cocktail bar a few doors down!
