Tips for planning a skiing holiday with the kids
When your kids are young and fearless it’s the best time for them to hit the slopes. Although, it can seem a bit daunting,a skiing trip can make for an amazing family holiday. If you follow these tips you’ll be sure to have a super time and all come back ready to tackle the slalom.
Pick the right resort
Do some research on sites like iglu.com and make sure the resort is child friendly. Some resorts are really geared up for children and have ski schools that run all day and activities for children in the afternoon. You don’t want to end up at a resort with loads of advanced skiers without the patience for kids. It’s also a good idea to check out the bars and restaurants are child friendly too as you want to be able to take your kids in whilst you enjoy a happy hour beer.
Pay for a locker on the mountain
Even if you only have one child, lugging all your stuff and theirs up the mountain every day is no easy feat. You probably will have to on the first day (remember to pack a holdall for this!) but after that, if you’ve hired a locker, you can leave it there overnight and just get your stuff back out again in the morning. This makes getting to and from the mountain loads easier and stress free.
Enrol your children in ski school
Enrolling your children in ski school is a must. The kids will learn so much more from a skiing instructor than from yourself and they will meet other children of their own age and make friends so it should make the hard bits of learning more fun. Be prepared for a lot of moaning and even tears on the first few days. Learning to ski is tiring and difficult but children pick things up really fast so by around day 3 they will be loving it.
Be prepared
Planning ahead will make your skiing trip a lot smoother. Little things like making sure your child has a backpack so they can carry their water bottle and have somewhere to put their fleece means you’ll not get lumbered with carrying everything. Also, stock them up with lots of high energy snacks like fruit and nuts to make sure they have enough energy for the day.
