Webloyalty report on holiday habits

I recently read a report from Webloyalty looking at holiday and leisure habits and it got me thinking about our own holiday habits for this year.  The report showed that 35% of the UK population won’t take a holiday at all this year….Can you imagine having a whole year without going away?  I know if needs must then you have to give up the ‘luxuries’, but personally for me the thought of no holiday and staying at home is pretty depressing.

I’m not a huge fan of the word ‘staycation’ yet as a family we are joining the 1 in 5 that plan to holiday in the UK this year rather than travelling abroad (obviously not including my charity trip in October, which is funded primarily through sponsorship and fundraising).  We’re heading off the west coast of Wales and plan to mainly to stick to the beach *weather permitting! Exploring the rock pools, making sand castles and playing cricket.  We were lucky as last year we went to Wales we had the best week of the whole summer holidays (remember 2012 summer was pretty wet?!) So fingers crossed we have good weather again.

As a family we regularly search for the best deals online, use voucher codes, online discount vouchers where possible.  Our holiday to Wales was almost ‘free’ due to being able to convert money off vouchers into holiday vouchers.

Lets not forget though, even though we may have to have a staycation this year in the UK, this is only mildly affected by the ‘economic downturn’ but probably more because we’ve recently moved house and the fact I’m using 2+ weeks for my trip in October I’ve got limited holiday left!…There’s so much to see in the UK and it’s a great place to have a holiday *weather permitting (again!) and there’s so much we’ve yet to see!

So for this year we’re staying in the UK as a family, but hopefully in 2014 we will be able to afford a holiday abroad as a family…I can’t decide yet, but am hoping either Thailand or the Caribbean…We’ll see!
