Worry No.2 – Leaving the kids
Following on from my first post, here’s the 2nd thing that’s worrying me about doing Everest Base Camp….leaving my boys for approx. 17 days!
The longest I’ve been away from them previously was when I did Kilimanjaro 2 years ago which was for around 11 days. When I returned home from Kili there was a mixture of emotions that the boys showed me, one was silence….almost a ‘can’t believe you left me’ silence…mind you only lasted a little while (thankfully)!
But every time I think of my upcoming Everest Base Camp trip, I do feel incredibly guilty and selfish. But I know further down the line they will be proud of my achievements and I look forward to joining them on their own adventures!
How would you cope leaving your children for a length of time?

Carly, I think when you think about the long term you being away for 17 days is nothing but in the short term is sounds horrid. Your boys will be so proud of you and you will give them inspiration to maybe follow in your footsteps one day!!

Thanks Luci, With Kili, i was focused on the task at hand, which i’m sure will happen here too…I will no doubt continue to have pangs of guilt until i’m back 🙂

Hi Carly. I feel guilty if I leave my kids for a weekend, and almost cancelled my 4 day trip to Barcelona recently with my husband! But I guess, even though we’re mums, we need some time to do our own thing ever now and then. I agree with Luci; your boys will be proud of you for it in the future.
It’s kind of nice to know someone else worries about the same things I do though!
