Life as a Football Mum

Having two boys you are pretty much guaranteed that at least one of them is going to enjoy football, in my case both my boys are heavily into football, they train and play games for their local leagues, they play Fifa on their consoles and they of course regularly watch it on TV and live if they get the chance, so I myself have had to embrace the football world for as long as they’re at home ay least!

As my boys are different ages, they are in different age categories for their respective clubs and they play for different local teams so their training is on different days.  They then have their league matches on Sundays (at the same time and different part of the county which means we need to plan on how we transport them to their matches). Having a footballing child means you need to sacrifice some of your evenings and part of your weekend to allow them to play the sport they love, but of course we don’t mind as we want to encourage them to be active and engage in outdoor sports, which we know is so incredibly beneficial for our mental and physical health and wellbeing.

When it comes to which teams they support, both have been influenced by the adults in their life, so the eldest supports Leeds United and the youngest is Arsenal.  With both teams now being in the Premiership, things can become quite tense in the household depending on which team is performing well and when there’s an in-house derby between both teams then we certainly know about it!  Looking at the upcoming Premiership Fixtures I can see we have an upcoming match in December…if we can’t get tickets then I hope it will be shown on TV.

During one of the lockdowns and when football was back on our screens but crowds weren’t allowed, they loved it when the majority of matches were shown on television!  At the time we only has one TV that had sky connected and so unless I moved to a different part of the house, I was pretty much in for a night of football on the tele on a pretty regular basis.  But this was actually good as it meant the boys were engaging in a more social manner and not staying in their bedrooms for hours on end with the odd text message here and there..they are teenagers after all 🙂

Now football is back to normal and crowds are allowed back into stadiums, we have been enjoying going to local matches where we can.

What’s more I’ve taken the football life even further and joined the work fantasy football league, with help from the resident experts.  All tips welcome!  You can even find me down the local football pitch on occasions failing at being a goalkeeper!  Aside from the drama that can come from footballers on TV, it’s a great game and i’ll certainly be embracing it for a few more years to come and who know’s even maybe after the boys have flown the nest, you may find me catching up on the latest scores on my own accord.
