Secret Spots For Adventure Travellers in Thailand

Thailand is well known the world over as a fantastic holiday destination: beautiful lush rainforests, gorgeous beaches, near-constant sunshine and mouth-watering traditional food. This incredible corner of South East Asia really has something for everyone – adventurers included. If you’ve been before you might have had a wander around Ho Chi Minh City and taken in a sense of the great Buddhist history of the city and its surroundings, but adrenaline junkies should use Encounters Travel to get to the best sporting spots.

Soppong

Located in the north of the country, Soppong is home to some beautiful forests and rivers waiting to be explored, with the ThamLod underground river and cave system still full of gems waiting to be discovered. For fans of rocks, this is the place to be, with plenty of climbing and caving opportunities to take advantage of – you get an incredible view from the mountains, and newbies can take advantage of the many climbing classes available. The villages themselves are also beautifully quiet, so you can have a sit down and enjoy the calm afterwards.

Chiang Rai

For holidaymakers who love adrenaline but need a bit of a slower pace, the beautiful landscapes of Chiang Rai are fantastic for trekking off the beaten path. Most famous for the ‘golden triangle’, where the three countries of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, the beautiful gate and stunning view of the three countries meeting at the river is worth navigating the hilly terrain for.

Chiang Mai

Travelling a little further south now, water babies and rock climbers can combine their interests by abseiling in Chiang Mai. Once again, there are activities and routes for all ability levels here, so advanced adventurers can do their own thing while beginners learn the ropes with qualified instructors. Abseiling down the Wang Thong waterfall is relatively quiet, and poses a great new challenge for rock climbers – if you aren’t a fan of heights, kayaking is a popular and well-catered sport too.

AoPhang Nga

Located just off the Andaman islands, Phang Nga offers truly fantastic views and waters for white water rafting – a relatively new activity in the area. Scuba diving and other activities on offer, but these are usually clogged with tourists so rafting may be a more enjoyable experience. The rapid rivers offer an exhilarating trip for rafters experienced and new, and once you’ve finished you can enjoy exploring the rest of the Tone Pariat wildlife sanctuary.
